Element Winery 2012 Syrah

Like all the Element wines, this syrah is elegant, restrained and gracefully structured. It shows the more floral side of the variety, less black olive and more lavender. It was fermented and aged for 24 months in neutral French puncheons (8-year old barrels), which gives the wine a silky polish to the present tannins coming from whole stem inclusion fermentation. It is a variety that Christopher believes has a bright future in the Finger Lakes AVA, and he makes it in his indelibly calm style. This is not a rich and sweet style of syrah, but a cool and finessed one.
