Domaine de la Haute Olive

Loire | Chinon | Cravant-les-Côteaux

Bruno Sourdais carries an intuitive understanding of his vines and cellar work that cannot be learned at any school, only transmitted from one generation to another. He and his wife, Sophie, bring this perspective to the family’s extraordinary holdings in and around Cravant les Côteaux. Sensitivity to the varied terroirs in which their old-vine cabernet franc (the oldest planted about 1928) grows finds distinct expression in the wines.
Through attentive viticulture and thoughtful cellar work, Bruno and Sophie seek a balance of fruit and acidity, freshness and subtlety, achieving some of the most soulful Chinons we know.

Domaine de la Haute Olive 2016 Chinon "Les Clos"

This cabernet franc comes from 40-45 year-old vines from southern-facing hillside vineyards. The soil here is comprised of siliceous clay covered with large flint. The wine is fermented in concrete and is raised in neutral foudre for 10 months.
