Weingut Gross 2016 Ried Sulz Sauvignon Blanc

The Sulz vineyard is a very large vineyard (grosslage) that is comprised of many small single vineyards (einzellagen). Here the soils are limestone and clay and vine age is nearly 30 years. Grapes are carefully selected, hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and macerated for a short period of roughly 3 - 6 hours before spontaneous fermentation takes place in traditional large, oak barrels. The wine is then racked and matured in the same barrels for 12 months, followed by 6 months in stainless tank.
