Dr. Heger 2014 Vorderer Winklerberg Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs

Heger’s portion of the Grosses Gewächs vineyard Vorderer Winkelberg is a terraced site planted with a specific mix of Dijon clones planted at very high density on dry, rocky, volcanic soils. The potential for balance and expression here is unique, noted for its elegant and mineralic expression contrasted with the structure and power that is elaborated by the red tephrite rocks that absorb the sun’s warmth during the day and resonate that heat upon the grapes at night. The wine is fermented with native yeasts after a 5 day cold maceration, and it sees extended elevage which takes place over 18 months in barrique.
