Franzen

Mosel Terraces | Bremm

Angelina and Kilian Franzen’s story is every bit as moving as their wines. Today they have 5 hectares in the Calmont and additional holdings in the venerated Neefer Frauenberg and Kloster Stuben vineyards. Vines are up to 90 years old, their roots driven into the terraced slate, giving immense concentration to the wines. Fermentations are spontaneous, the wines go through malo, and GGs are bottled late. All this accounts for wines of that are as much about texture, herbaceousness, and salinity as they are fruit. They display remarkable freshness and animation as well as density and echoing length.

Franzen 2016 Frauenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs

This Grosses Gewächs comes from Franzen's oldest vines in the Frauenberg (60-90 years-old). All of Franzen's wines take a long time to ferment, and the 2015 took over year to complete alcoholic fermentation. It was picked in early November, 2015. This GG has flavors of golden apples, pears and spice and the palate is salty, leesy and long.
