Element Winery 2014 Pinot Noir
I cannot think of another pinot noir like this one. It is pale in color, like a dark rosé, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that the wine is somehow deficient in structure and flavor. With air, the wine gains body and length. It displays raspberry aromas and a dose of neutral barrel polish from whole cluster fermentation and aging in 10-year old French puncheons for 26 months. It’s not sappy or candied, but rather buoyant and bright with a lacy persistence. It made me wonder if this might be akin to pinot noir made like long ago: a slightly darker hue of oeil de perdrix, but “light,” polished and graceful.
