Jean-René Germanier 2014 Syrah "Cayas"
Syrah in Switzerland? Yes, the Rhône River starts here, and the Germanier vineyards are in the Valais Rhône River Valley with soils of river stones and deposits of glacial moraine. The grapes take 70 days from veraison to harvest, afterwards it is cold-soaked, fermented with ambient yeast and aged for two years in oak. There are aromas of black olive, plum and brambly fruits but the palate is also minerally-laced and lithe. Above all, it is juicy, cool, precise and full of finesse and length.
