Dr. Heger

Baden | Ihringen

Just a few miles from the French border, in Germany’s southernmost region of Baden, Joachim Heger farms the extraordinary grand crus of Ihringer Winklerberg and Achkarrer Schlossberg. On these steep, volcanic slopes, Joachim gives voice to unique, delicious, ageworthy expressions of pinot noir. For close to 40 vintages, his work has revolutionized the way we can interpret the potential of this ancient wine region. Joachim made a name for himself and Baden with pinot noir, but he also embraces classic Germanic varieties, foremost riesling and silvaner, by allowing each to work its magic on the unique volcanic, loess, and limestone soils.

Dr. Heger 2014 Pinot Blanc

Though the intention in coming to Baden was for pinot noir, the white Burgundy varieties were so compelling that we couldn't help but add them to the portfolio. This basic pinot blanc couples classical honeydew and cantaloupe flavors with a light, linear structure. This wine is so crisp and fresh, it’s hard not to love.
