Benedikt Baltes 2016 Bichofsberg Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs

The 2015 was declassified to Erste Lage, but the 2016 was bottled as Grosses Gewächs. Here is a full-bodied pinot noir from Benedikt: ruby red in color, with aromas of cassis and black raspberry. There is a “coolness” to the wine though too, with structure and balance. It was fermented in local Klingenberg oak and it is a serious pinot noir that rivals top offerings from around the world. If you question the pedigree of German pinot noir, this wine will convince you.
