Frischengruber 2016 Kirnberg Riesling Smaragd
This Kirnberg vineyard is predominately planted to grüner veltliner in the warmer, eastern slope, but riesling is planted on the cooler, western edges, where erosion has left pure gneiss and mica-schist open to the sky with large deposits of magnesium and iron-rich biotite. Pear, apricot and tropical fruit aromas are clear, with a long, salty palate. This is a focused, yet full-bodied, riesling, full of character and length. The wine routinely sees a long, slow pressing followed by a long, cool, native yeast fermentation in stainless steel with an extended lees aging for 6 additional months.
