Falkenstein

Alto Adige | Val Venosta | Naturno

The Alpine vineyards of Alto Adige/Südtirol are among the steepest and highest. It’s at these heights that the Falkenstein vineyards perch & it’s here that the Pratzner family organically farm 12 hectares of riesling, pinot blanc, sauvignon blanc, and pinot noir, on terraces hewn from sandy, glacially distributed soils. A long growing season, sharp diurnals, and excellent expositions coupled with the deliberate selection of acacia for fermentation and aging of their whites all contribute to the Pratzners’ supremely incisive expressions of the mountain terroir.

Falkenstein 2016 Sauvignon Blanc

The most exotic wine in the selection distinguishes itself through complex aromas and marked acidity. The clusters are dense and relatively small, hand harvested at the end of September and then gently processed. As with the other white wines, sauvignon blanc grapes are transferred to large acacia casks to start fermentation, spending 10 months on the lees. Once bottled, the wine is stored for a further 12 months, allowing it to develop its character.
