Untermoserhof

Alto Adige | Bolzano

Florian and Georg Ramoser are the tight father-son team behind a sharply focused set of wines from schiava and lagrein. Untermoserhof, the Ramoser family home and winery that dates to 1640, sits just above Bolzano. Steep slopes, challenging varieties, and the Ramosers’ dedication to minimal-input farming demand rigorous handwork in the vineyards. Their concentration on old vines, dense plantings, controlled yields, and thoughtful cellar work is bringing exceptional results — dense, spice-tinged lagrein and vivid, inflected schiava.

Untermoserhof 2016 Lagrein "Riserva" DOC

The main difference between the Riserva and the basic lagrein is the age of the vines (Riserva is between 30-60 years). Another important difference is the lower yield, which is around 7500 kg (55hl) per hectar. Grapes are destemmed, and for the first 5 days of fermentation pump overs occur twice daily in cask. After 18 -20 days the wines are racked off the skins and pressed. They are racked once again before putting the wine into 500L barrels for malolactic fermentation; here they are aged for 10-12 months. The Riserva is released 2 years after harvest.
