Knebel
Mosel Terraces | Winningen
Matthias Knebel has become synonymous with the revolution in German wine quality. His fidelity to painstaking, handwrought viticulture in the unique landscape of the Mosel Terraces yields extraordinary results across his range, from a ridiculously undervalued village bottling to the magnificent GGs. The wines, from one of the most dynamic yet overlooked regions in Germany, deliver unadulterated intensity with an emphasis on texture, minerality, purity, and superb finesse.
Knebel 2017 Röttgen Riesling Auslese
These are not easy grapes to harvest, and it is Matthias’ mother who made this—and all the noble sweet wines at the estate. Riesling was harvest at 110° Oechsle with very little botrytis. It shows red peach, cassis, apricot and brown spices with a long, honeyed pear and spicy finish. Undoubtedly, a remarkable auslese in any vintage.
