Weingut Fromm

Graubünden | Malans

The Fromm family has been dedicated to the cultivation of pinot noir in the high mountain terrain of Graubünden for 5 generations. Of the Fromm’s 7 hectares, 5 are in historic crus; here Georg, his nephew, Walter, and son, Marco, work with both Burgundian and old Swiss pinot clones to offer distinct flavors, aromas, and textures. Their farming has been certified organic by Bio-Suisse since 2015. Winemaking focuses on spontaneous fermentation in open tanks and long aging in neutral wood. The results are pinot noirs with arresting aromatics, fine tannins, balance and unmistakable Alpine freshness.

Weingut Fromm 2018 Pinot Noir Village

The Village pinot noir from Fromm is a village wine composed of fruit from several organic vineyards in Malans. Amongst these vineyards exists soils of schist, limestone and sand with vines ranging in age from 20 to 40 years old. The clonal mixture amongst these sites represents approximately 80% old Swiss clonal varieties and 20% Dijon clones. As always at Fromm, the grapes for Village are spontaneously fermented in open oak vats with 2 weeks of maceration. After which, the Village wine completes malolactic and elevage in large, 3000L neutral oak. Bottling occurs with minimal sulfites.
