Domaine René Lequin-Colin

Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay

The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.

Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2017 Bourgogne Chardonnay

This is the only wine in the Lequin-Colin collection that isn’t 100% barrel fermented. It is 50% in tank and 50% in barrel, of which 10% was new in Chassin and Rousseau French oak, so there is a total of 5% new oak on this everyday chardonnay. The grapes come from plots in Santenay: “Lavau” near the village, and “Corpeau” which is located below the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The grapes from the plot “Corpeau” are purchased from organic producer friends of François, but François manages the viticulture, the harvest and the ultimate pressing and winemaking. The result is a fresh, citrusy and long chardonnay squarely in the AOC of Burgundy, but without pretense or artifice.
