Domaine René Lequin-Colin
Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay
The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.
Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2016 Bourgogne Chardonnay "Retour aux Racines"
100% from the “Lavau” parcel in Santenay, where there is a predominance of chalk in the soil and very little topsoil, this chardonnay is fermented in 100% oak, 10% new from Chassin and Rousseau coopers. The wine is 12 months in oak and 3 months in tank after malolactic and final racking off the fine lees before bottling. The wine is unfined and unfiltered and complete depature form the basic Bourgogne Chardonnay. In the future, François wants to make the basic more like this wine “Back to the Roots.” He will start with the 2016 harvest. We get very little of this wine until the winery can get more barrels into the program, but with a maximum of 10% new, this takes time.
