Domaine René Lequin-Colin

Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay

The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.

Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2019 Bourgogne Pinot Noir

This wine comes from two parcels in Santenay: “Chassey-le-Camps” and “Lavau.” Lavau is planted half to chardonnay (which goes into the “Retour aux Racine” bottling) and half to pinot noir. For this basic pinot noir, the grapes are co-fermented 10% whole cluster with the rest being de-stemmed. Fermentation lasts approximately 2-3 weeks after which the wine is aged in barrel for 10 months, only 10% of which was new. It’s juicy, spicy and everything you’d want in a basic Burgundy.
