Domaine René Lequin-Colin

Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay

The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.

Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines

1er Cru Les Baudines lies in the southwest corner of Chassagne-Montrachet, at the top of a southeast facing hillside. The vineyard lies just below the edge of the forest above, with Santenay to the south and 1er Cru Embrazées to the east. Baudines is composed of fairly deep, compact soil of clay and limestone that is white in appearance. This combined with its unique elevation produces chardonnay of focused mineral expression and bright acidity. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in barrel, of which 20% is new oak. Elevage takes place over 12 months in barrels followed by 3 months in stainless before bottling.
