Domaine René Lequin-Colin

Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay

The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.

Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Caillerets"

Caillerets is generally considered one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s top 1er Crus, as it benefits from ideal hillside exposure with very rocky chalk topsoil. In fact, the word “Caillerets” comes from the word “Caille” meaning “stones.” Lequin’s rows total 0.22 ha and are located in the southwest corner of the climat, bordering “Les Champs Gain” to the east and “Les Fairendes” to the south (“Les Fairendes” is one of the 1er Cru climats which make up “Morgeot”). Undoubtedly, this is François’ most impressive chardonnay in the 1er Cru range. It has both an impressive structure and acidity coupled with layers of flavor and a silky texture.
