Domaine René Lequin-Colin

Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay

The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.

Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet "Les Charrières"

This lieu-dit is fascinating. Hemmed in by “En Journoblot” to the west “Les Perclos” to the south and “Les Houilières” to the north, François rows are in the north-west corner, just several meters from Bâtard-Montrachet and Les Criots. He has only .2 ha here, but the vines are 65-70 years-old, which produce a minerally-lace wine with sweetness and length. François thinks so highly of this site (and the Clos Devant), that selection massale cuttings are made from here for new plantings in the rest of his vineyards. Of the two Chassagne-Montrachet climats, Les Charrières is leaner and shows more citrus than Clos Devant, which is more capacious in body and richer on the palate.
