Famille Baudry

Loire | Sancerre | Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois

Now in its fourth generation, the Baudry family and its Domaine de Rome cultivate 13 hectares of vineyards in Sancerre, just north of the eponymous town in the villages of Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois, Sury-en-Vaux, and Verdigny. Organically farming since 2010 (certified in 2023), the family works meticulously in the vineyard to allow minimal intervention in the cellar. Their flagship AOP Sancerre blends sauvignon blanc plots from the three villages and two soil types—the classic white clay-limestone soils and the pebbly blend of limestone and gravel known locally as “caillottes” —to make highly expressive, complex, racy, refreshing Sancerre.

Famille Baudry 2022 Sancerre AOP

Our Sancerre Traditional is a blend of our three villages, Sainte Gemme, Sur yen Vaux and Verdigny. “Caillottes” which gives a Sancerre white very fruity with citrus aromas or exotics fruits according to the vintage. Wines issues from white soils are wines to be expected with a great aging potential. After the harvest each village fermenting by cold temperature separately before blending. Half part of his wine is fermenting with natural yeast and half with additional yeasts (neutral aromatically).
