Franzen

Mosel Terraces | Bremm

Angelina and Kilian Franzen’s story is every bit as moving as their wines. Today they have 5 hectares in the Calmont and additional holdings in the venerated Neefer Frauenberg and Kloster Stuben vineyards. Vines are up to 90 years old, their roots driven into the terraced slate, giving immense concentration to the wines. Fermentations are spontaneous, the wines go through malo, and GGs are bottled late. All this accounts for wines of that are as much about texture, herbaceousness, and salinity as they are fruit. They display remarkable freshness and animation as well as density and echoing length.

Franzen 2015 Calmont Riesling Kabinett

2015 was the first vintage that Kilian and Angelina made this fruity riesling from younger vines in the upper portion of the Calmont, in a site called "Fachkaul." This parcel forms the mini-amphitheater-shaped bowl where Kilian's father restored and replanted the vines. Pink grapefruit, cassis and kiwi flavors show in this expressive and crunchy kabinett.
