Falkenstein

Alto Adige | Val Venosta | Naturno

The Alpine vineyards of Alto Adige/Südtirol are among the steepest and highest. It’s at these heights that the Falkenstein vineyards perch & it’s here that the Pratzner family organically farm 12 hectares of riesling, pinot blanc, sauvignon blanc, and pinot noir, on terraces hewn from sandy, glacially distributed soils. A long growing season, sharp diurnals, and excellent expositions coupled with the deliberate selection of acacia for fermentation and aging of their whites all contribute to the Pratzners’ supremely incisive expressions of the mountain terroir.

Falkenstein 2017 Gewurztraminer

This is a focused and dry gewürztraminer, with no shortage of acidity, mineral and spice. Much like the other white wines in the range the grapes are pressed and transferred to large acacia casks to start fermentation, spending 10 months on the lees. Once bottled, the wine is released after 2 months of bottle resolution, much shorter than the 12 months with the other whites, to celebrate the focus of this gewürztraminer’s expression.
