Sohm & Kracher
Weinviertel | Illmitz
When long-time friends Aldo Sohm and Gerhard Kracher decided to make wine together, they brought to the project decades of collective experience and a shared love of great foods and wines of the world — especially dry grüner veltliner from their native Austria. They knew the focus would be grüner veltliner grown in the Weinviertel made according to two basic principles: the wines should be (low to) moderate in alcohol and should never be unctuous in character. Since their first vintage in 2009, they have kept a sharp focus on one variety — from the brisk, peppery “Lion” to the Chablis-like “St. Georg.”

Sohm & Kracher 2023 Grüner Veltliner "Alte Reben"
A step up in texture and flavor, this wine is a bit phenolic, expressing more weight on the palate and structure similar to that of a Chardonnay. This selection of older vines is fermented with native yeasts in a combination of 50% stainless steel and 50% neutral oak, followed by an extended elevage of 20 months.
