Knebel

Mosel Terraces | Winningen

Matthias Knebel has become synonymous with the revolution in German wine quality. His fidelity to painstaking, handwrought viticulture in the unique landscape of the Mosel Terraces yields extraordinary results across his range, from a ridiculously undervalued village bottling to the magnificent GGs. The wines, from one of the most dynamic yet overlooked regions in Germany, deliver unadulterated intensity with an emphasis on texture, minerality, purity, and superb finesse.

Knebel 2015 Brückstück Riesling

Brückstück is Devonian blue slate with clay, sandstone and volcanic pumice. The majority of Knebel’s holdings are mid-slope in the lieu-dit of Sternberg. Brückstück is very powerful and concentrated maintaining a sense of elegance with a much more fruity character than the other vineyards. The resulting wines from here are marked more by exotic, yellow fruits: mango and passionfruit with a firestone spark minerality. This was fermented in steel and the spontaneous fermentation stopped naturally at 17.2 grams/L, so that’s how the wine was bottled.
