La Vecchia Posta

Piedmont | Colli Tortonesi | Avolasca

The vines of La Vecchia Posta sit high in the Colli Tortonesi amid the gentle foothills of the Ligurian Apennines. Here Roberto Semino cultivates 3.5 hectares of vineyard dedicated to native grapes of the Piedmont, where the Tortoniano soils are ideally matched. Roberto was among the first to farm organically in Italy starting in the 1980s. Spontaneous ferments, few to no added sulphites, allow for the pure expression of the high hills and their proximity to forest, mountain, and sea.

La Vecchia Posta 2016 "Languia" Barbera Colli Tortonesi DOC

The vines of La Vecchia Posta sit high in the Colli Tortonesi, in the village of Avolasca, amid the gentle foothills of the Ligurian Apennines. This terroir produces a barbera of unique brightness and perfume. As is traditional, Roberto blends his barbera with 5% croatina. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation on the skins for 10 days in stainless steel before being racked to complete malolactic large oak tonneaux. The wine spends an additional 6 months on the lees with light battonage before bottling with very little sulfur.
