Domaine René Lequin-Colin

Burgundy | Côte de Beaune | Santenay

The wines of this domaine emphasize purity and transparency. From 1er and grand cru holdings in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, vigneron François Lequin lets each site speak in the clearest possible voice through organic farming and “a small hand” in the cellar. There is a bright freshness to the wines, from the Retour aux Racines that is a complete departure from basic Bourgogne Blanc to the regal, but never overbearing Bâtard-Montrachet. The pinot noirs are charming and fruit-driven, marked by drinkability and finesse. Altogether, the Lequin-Colin range represents a rare opportunity to tap into tremendous quality and value in Burgundy.

Domaine René Lequin-Colin 2017 Santenay "Vieilles Vignes"

A blend of three plots in Santenay, this old-vines pinot noir over-delivers in every way. To the east of the commune is “Champs Claude” with vines 70+ years old; closer to Chassagne is “Les Hates” with vines 50-55 years old; and “Clos Genet” where the vines are 40-45 years old. François believes that “Les Hates” brings structure and the other two sites bring finesse and fruitiness. The wine is fermented by native yeasts in neutral barrique, with 20% new barrels. Elevage continues for a 12 month period, under the same barrel program, followed by an additional 3 months in stainless steel before bottling.
