Sohm & Kracher

Weinviertel | Illmitz

When long-time friends Aldo Sohm and Gerhard Kracher decided to make wine together, they brought to the project decades of collective experience and a shared love of great foods and wines of the world — especially dry grüner veltliner from their native Austria. They knew the focus would be grüner veltliner grown in the Weinviertel made according to two basic principles: the wines should be (low to) moderate in alcohol and should never be unctuous in character. Since their first vintage in 2009, they have kept a sharp focus on one variety — from the brisk, peppery “Lion” to the Chablis-like “St. Georg.”

Sohm & Kracher 2019 Grüner Veltliner “Lion”

This wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation, as do all the wines. It is the only wine in the line-up that fully ferments in stainless steel where it spends one year on its fine lees. It is a crisp, fresh, aperitif-style grüner that is salty and easy to drink.
