Untermoserhof

Alto Adige | Bolzano

Florian and Georg Ramoser are the tight father-son team behind a sharply focused set of wines from schiava and lagrein. Untermoserhof, the Ramoser family home and winery that dates to 1640, sits just above Bolzano. Steep slopes, challenging varieties, and the Ramosers’ dedication to minimal-input farming demand rigorous handwork in the vineyards. Their concentration on old vines, dense plantings, controlled yields, and thoughtful cellar work is bringing exceptional results — dense, spice-tinged lagrein and vivid, inflected schiava.

Untermoserhof 2018 Santa Magdalena Classico "Hub" DOC

"Hub" is the name of a single site at 380 meters, exclusively planted to schiava vines averaging 80 years old. The lighter soils here produce smaller gape bunches, according to Florian. The wine spends 2 more months in neutral oak than the St. Magdalener, and spends a year in bottle before release. The aim is to go in the direction of silkier tannins and elegance.
