von Hövel 2021 Oberemmeler Hütte Riesling Kabinett “Monopol Lage”
When taking over the estate from his father, Max von Kunow immediately turned heads with his inaugural vintage, recognized by Gault-Millau as producing one of the top three Kabinetts from the 2010 vintage - Oberemmeler Hütte Kabinett. As Max began to farm these vineyards organically the wine has only improved. It’s a modest Kabinett with typically lower residual sugar than most, expressing the darker side of mineral you often find in Hütte. It’s an elusive expression for the Saar; often cherry, rose and bergamot spring to mind. Grapes are gently processed and fermented spontaneously, 2018 was fermented in aged in stainless steel.
