Franzen 2020 Elbling
This is an ancient grape, thought to have been planted in the Mosel region by the Romans. Elbling is an offspring of gouais blanc and is a cross between traminer and some unidentified variety, which has the same parentage as riesling. Elbling is typically more acidic and more tropical than riesling, but in Franzen’s hands, the wine is zippy yet round.
